Matte Lamination

A smooth non-reflective film that softens colors, reduces glare and protects the printed surface.

What it is

Matte lamination bonds a matte film over the printed sheet, giving packaging a calm, contemporary look with minimal reflection. It protects ink from scuffs and moisture while keeping the surface pleasant to hold. ZKPACKS applies matte lamination across cartons, cards, tags and rigid box wrap sheets.

Artwork requirements

  • Bleed extended through any area that will be laminated
  • Avoid placing fine text exactly on fold lines under lamination
  • Keep emboss and foil zones clear of heavy ink coverage where possible

Limitations

  • — Dark matte surfaces can show fingerprints and light scuffs more easily
  • — Matte film reduces the contrast and saturation of printed color compared with gloss
  • — Laminated surfaces can be harder to recycle depending on local facilities

Production risks

  • — Bubbles or wrinkles if the film and sheet are not perfectly clean and dry
  • — Edge lifting or delamination at folds and creases
  • — Scuffing visible on deep colors during handling

Sustainability considerations

Lamination adds a plastic film, so recyclability is subject to material specification, local collection infrastructure and whether the film can be separated from the board.
